Re: changing sprites

Yo. It was mentioned in a locked thread about upgrading server to 7.6 (proposals forum) its possible to at least change way some textures look, i guess this makes sense since things like grass, water or roof looks dont affect gameplay, and lots of players me included prefer that sprites.

Anyway, on tibiantis.info there is a download 'Tibia High Resolution Timer' which "which fixes timer methods in old programs like Tibia client." Doesnt do anything for me, thread mentioned it somehow would modify the looks. Guess its unrelated.

Some threads on otland its possible to edit .dll yourself to import textures but im not sure its legal to do that here? It would be great if admins could give us the file to replace looks since its on 7.72 anyway. Easy to do like minimaps switch.

One more thing, noticed "TCP no delay" option in tibiantis client. whats it for? Doesn't seem to affect gameplay.

Re: changing sprites

1. No, sorry, it is not allowed to modify the client's files, and that includes sprites (rule 3d). It would trigger the auto-updater to download the actual files and overcoming this may result in a ban. It has already happened to the cheaters who modified their client. The only files that players are allowed to edit by themselves are the config files (Tibiantis.cfg, Tibiantis.ini) and the map files, but we don't recommend doing so, unless you really know what you're doing.

2. The High Resolution Timer is unrelated. It replaces system function timeGetTime which is kinda buggy and may cause FPS issues in modern OS.
For reference: https://github.com/SaiyansKing/Tibia-High-Resolution-Timer/tree/master
By the way, it is already included in the client's folder, so there is no need to download it externally.

3. The "TCP no delay" option sets TCP_NODELAY flag on the socket, which effectively turns off the Nagle's algorithm to prevent any delay before sending data to the server (especially the Nagle's + delayed ACK throttling, but not only). In short words: it decreases your latency (less lag), because with this option all new packets are sent immediately. When you change this option the effect takes place only after establishing a new connection, which means that you have to relog. The difference may vary from unnoticeable to significant (depending on the system, TCP implementation, default timeout value, certain in-game scenarios etc).
For reference: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10608356
The only downside is that it also increases the amount of data sent over your network, so we left it optional. However, the client generally sends very little data (approx. a few MB per hour), so it really shouldn't be a problem, unless you are using a very expensive mobile broadband (paid per data). In any other case, we always recommend to have it checked.
Some players may still remember the famous "Leatrix Latency Fix" which was widely used by gamers years ago and it did similar thing. We don't recommend installing it because the "TCP no delay" option already does the job and it only works within the client (while LLF messes with your system settings).

Hope this was somewhat helpful.
