This topic is all about availability of bright sword. I talked to some people and I got their point - bright sword quest has been removed because this weapon was a lot easier to get comparing to fire axe or skull staff. But in my opinion making it possible to get only as rare drop from rare boss is quite unfair...
Axe/club fighters are able to buy fire axe or skull staff for quite low price comparing to bright sword which one guy on trade wanted to sell for 400k...What is more important - you can loot fire axe or skull staff by yourself hunting monsters. Even dragon lance removed from quest is still available as loot from black knight, which everybody is able to hunt and try his luck. This lead us to situation when the best one-handed weapon before annihilator is fire sword which has 35 attack, while skull staff has 36 and fire axe has 38...
Fire axe - possible to loot from monster, no problem to buy on trade channel Dragon lance - possible to loot from monster, quite rare and hard to get but still possible for all players to loot/buy for 100-150k
Skull staff - possible to loot from random monster, no problem to buy on trade channel for funny price War hammer - possible to loot from random monster or even pick from ground at POH, no problem to buy on trade channel for funny price
Bright sword - impossible to get for random player... Giant sword - possible to loot from monsters, no problem to buy on trade channel
As you can see there is someting wrong with bright sword here. I understand that 35 lvl quest was too easy comparing to fire axe/skull staff. But...In my opinion it should be possible to loot as rare item in similar way to dragon lance, for example as very rare drop from behemoth (even more rare than steel boots or giant sword) or other strong monster. This might be the way for players to get it because at this moment there are only few of them on server.
And for those people who already got it from boss raids or gift from gods maybe it may be changed for exaplme to pharaoh sword or djinn blade which are not available because tombs don't exist. This way current owners of bright sword will not feel cheated by losing their cool rare stuff :)
Bright sword drops from Sandlord, it's a custom monster, similar to warlock but stronger. Respawn of only 1 Sandlord is available in game, so it's similar to dropping dragon lance from black knight.
Also check below guides, and you will find out you are good to go with Giant sword on balance stance, compared to fire Axe and shield on full attack stance.
With all respect, this analysis is very superficial. Fire axe may be easier to get than a bright sword, and significantly better than a fire sword, but at the same time giant sword is cheaper and easier to get than a dragon lance. That's just one example, but there are more in which swords have advantage over axes. In our opinion, the balancing (not only of weapon types, but professions, hunting grounds and other aspects of the game) shouldn't be done in a way that all the options are equal. It's quite the opposite, they should be different, with their own advantages and disadvantages.

So basically, If you want to wear a shield = axe If you don't want to wear a shield = sword If you don't want to waste money = club

Or I got something wrong?
Well that's very simplified but I would add to your sentence about sword, yes the result is wearing no shield but the real gain is that you can train efficient easier if you're not worried about shielding. Yes early game clubs are cheap, but then factor in that if you are a serious club knight you will purchase Hammer of wrath which is creeping up on 80-100k
